For centuries, historians and archaeologists have debated how Stonehenge was built — and now researchers believe they may have finally traced one piece of the landmark’s complex journey.

The monument, which sits on the Salisbury Plain near Amesbury, Wiltshire, was constructed in stages beginning around 3000 B.C., according to English Heritage, the organization that manages Stonehenge.

New research focuses on Stonehenge’s Altar Stone, which sits near the center of the monument and has long been debated among scholars, news agency SWNS reported.

Work by researchers from Curtin University in Perth, Australia, suggests the stone originated in northeast Scotland and reached southern England through a combination of glacial movement and human transport.

Using geological analysis and ice-sheet modeling, researchers found that glaciers may have carried the stone as far as Dogger Bank in the North Sea, or roughly 200 miles.

Prehistoric people then likely transported it to its current site in Wiltshire, another 250 miles away — a feat that researchers said required “tremendous determination.”

In a statement, co-lead author Anthony Clarke said the journey would have required careful planning and coordination.

“Rather than being carried naturally by ice, the evidence points to a deliberate, carefully planned movement across a challenging and varied landscape,” said Clarke, according to SWNS.

“Our modeling shows glaciers may have transported rocks part of the way during the last Ice Age — potentially as far as Dogger Bank in the North Sea — but not into southern England, meaning the stone would still have needed to be moved hundreds of kilometers by people.”

Clarke added that the Altar Stone was likely moved in stages, with prehistoric people transporting the stone after glaciers carried it only part of the journey.

“Transporting a stone of this size over such a long distance would have required planning, coordination and a deep understanding of the landscape — not to mention tremendous determination,” the researcher said.

“The study demonstrates how combining geological analysis with computer modeling can help resolve long-standing questions about how Stonehenge was built.”

Allan Finnegan, who appeared on Britain’s Got Talent in 2020, has died aged 59 after a four-year battle with cancer

Britain’s Got Talent star Allan Finnegan has died at the age of 59. The much-loved Baptist minister, who won over the nation with his hilarious stand-up comedy routine on the 2020 series of the ITV smash-hit, died on Friday (June 19) following a courageous four-year battle with eye and liver cancer.

His heartbroken family shared the devastating news over the weekend, revealing that the comedy priest passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.

In an emotional statement, his loved ones paid tribute to the late star, describing him as an “amazing, caring and funny” man. Alongside a photo of him with his family in the garden, they said: “We have the most precious memories as a family and will love and miss him so much.”

The family also shared that they played Finnegan’s favourite music, including Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here, as he passed away, reports the Mirror.

They expressed gratitude to fans for their support, which they said gave them more time with Finnegan.

The family wrote: “We would like to thank each and everyone of you for your support, love and amazing generosity during Allan’s battle.

“We are eternally grateful to you all, as this gave Allan precious extra time to spend with his family and new grandson.”

Finnegan was first diagnosed with a rare eye cancer known as ocular melanoma in 2022 after experiencing flashes of light in his vision. He was informed by a doctor that he had tumours in both eyes.

According to Ocular Melanoma UK, only 750 people are diagnosed with the disease each year in the UK.

Symptoms can include blurred vision and flashes of light, but it can also be asymptomatic, emphasising the importance of regular eye tests.

Finnegan’s tumours were surgically removed, but he subsequently learnt that the cancer had spread to his liver, rendering it inoperable. In 2024, he received a prognosis of 12 months to live, yet remarkably survived until 2026.

Back in 2020, Finnegan gained recognition by appearing on Britain’s Got Talent. Donning his clerical collar, the vicar delivered gags about life working within the church.

His performance won over judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams, securing his place in the semi-finals, though he unfortunately failed to garner sufficient votes to advance to the final round.

After receiving his cancer diagnosis, Finnegan published a book entitled I Didn’t Ask For Any Of This: Church, Comedy and Cancer.

The publication documented his journey from entering the clergy to appearing on BGT, alongside his cancer diagnoses.

Upon the book’s release, he wrote: “First and foremost I’m a husband, dad, grandad and Liverpool fan. Not just the football club but the city as well. It’s a great, friendly place to live.

“I’m not really sure I can call myself an author because this will most probably be my only publication. I’ve had a varied career, from building sites to Baptist minister. Stand-up comedian and somehow starred on Britain’s Got Talent in 2020. I am hoping this book will be my legacy.”

The email appears to use car safety as bait, then pushes you toward a link that should raise concern.

 

A message built around family safety

The email claims to come from someone named Sloane Garibaldi at AAA. It says the recipient’s household appeared on a member outreach list. Then it asks whether the family is “actually safe” in the car. That wording makes the message feel personal. It also turns a random email into something that sounds urgent.

 

A supposed rule with a deadline

The email says a new federal rule starts on July 1, 2026. It claims every passenger vehicle must carry a certified emergency rescue tool that can cut a seatbelt and break glass. Then it adds a warning about a $200 fine per occurrence. That kind of deadline can make any driver worry. However, the message does not point to a government site or an official AAA page. Instead, it pushes a shared Google link.

 

A fake status check

The email includes a small “compliance check” box. It lists the recipient as a member and says the check has not been completed. That detail makes the message feel like an account notice. It also creates a small task the reader may want to fix. Scammers use that tactic often. They make the action look quick, then hope you click before you question the message.

Red flags in the fake AAA email

Several clues inside the message suggest this email deserves to be treated as suspicious.

 

1) The real sender address looks suspicious

The display name says Sloane Garibaldi, but the expanded sender address shows pfiz@middlerunred.guru. That domain has no clear connection to AAA. Display names can be faked. The real sender address often tells a very different story.

 

2) The email does not use official AAA branding

The message uses the AAA name, but it does not include the official AAA logo or the kind of polished branding you would expect from a real member safety notice. That alone does not prove an email is fake. However, it adds to the concern when combined with a strange sender address, a shared link and urgent language. A real company email usually looks consistent with the brand’s website, app and past messages.

 

3) The link goes through a shared URL

The message uses a share. Google link instead of an official AAA website. That should make you pause. Shared links can hide the final destination. They can also lead to fake forms that collect personal details, account information, vehicle data or payment details. A real AAA notice should point to an official AAA domain or tell you to log in through the AAA app.

 

4) The email pushes fear before facts

The message asks whether your family is safe. It mentions a deadline. It warns about fines. Then it says the check only takes 60 seconds. That is a pressure move. The scammer wants clicking to feel easier than checking.

 

5) The rule citation does not match the claim

The email cites NHTSA FMVSS 571.220. That sounds convincing until you check what the rule covers. That federal standard deals with school bus rollover protection. It does not appear to require everyday passenger vehicles to carry an emergency rescue tool. Scammers often use official-sounding language because many people will not look it up.

 

6) The tone feels too casual for a legal warning

The message uses friendly lines like “I promise I’m not being dramatic” and “I’d rather chase you about this twice.” That tone may be meant to lower your guard. It sounds like someone trying to help. Still, a real safety or compliance notice should not arrive from a strange domain with a shared link and casual pressure.

 

7) The fine print repeats the suspicious link

The bottom of the email includes a P.S. that says the link may “wrap oddly” in your mail app. Then it repeats the same shared link so you can click it again. It even adds, “I’ve had people miss it because their inbox cut it in half,” which sounds casual but also gives the sender another excuse to push the link. That may seem helpful, but it keeps steering you toward the same questionable destination. Legitimate companies do not need to explain why a safety link looks strange in your inbox.

The fine print also says the recipient’s email address is tied to a “member household” in an outreach queue for the July 1, 2026, FMVSS §571.220 rollout. That wording sounds official, but it gives no member number, no verified AAA account link and no official AAA contact path. Even the opt-out line deserves caution. Scam emails often include unsubscribe or opt-out links to make the message look legitimate. In this case, “opt out here” could confirm your email address is active or send you to another suspicious page.

We reached out to AAA, and the organization confirmed the message did not come from them.

“AAA did not send those emails, and they could potentially be malicious,” an AAA spokesperson told CyberGuy. “We remind members to avoid clicking on suspicious links and contact us directly if they have questions or concerns.”

That confirmation makes the warning even clearer: do not click the link in the email. Go directly to AAA if you have any questions about your membership or a safety notice.

The scam feels believable because it mixes a practical safety concern with a personal tone and an official-sounding reference.

 

Car safety gets attention

Most people want to protect their family on the road. A seatbelt cutter or window breaker can also sound useful in a real emergency. That makes the topic believable. The issue is the email, not necessarily the idea of keeping an emergency tool in your vehicle.

 

Personal details can lower your guard

The email uses the recipient’s actual first and last name. Scammers often use personal details to make messages feel legitimate. A name, city, phone number or family reference can make someone hesitate before deleting an email.

 

Official names add fake credibility

The email mentions NHTSA and a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Those details make the message look researched. However, one official name does not make the claim true. Scammers count on people trusting the reference without checking it.

How to stay safe from fake AAA emails

A few quick checks can help you avoid bad links, fake forms and phishing attempts that pretend to come from trusted brands.

 

1) Check the sender address

Do not rely on the display name. Click or tap the sender to see the full address. If the domain does not match the company, treat the message as suspicious.

 

2) Look for missing or sloppy branding

Pay attention to the overall look of the email. Missing logos, odd spacing, plain formatting or generic design can be warning signs. Also, compare the message with past emails from the same company. If the style looks off, do not click.

 

3) Skip links in urgent emails

Avoid clicking links in surprise emails that mention deadlines, penalties or account problems. Instead, open your browser and go directly to the company’s official website. You can also use the company’s app.

 

4) Use strong antivirus software

Strong antivirus software can help block malicious links, phishing pages and dangerous downloads. It can also warn you before you land on a risky site. 5) Do not fill out surprise forms

Scam emails become more convincing when criminals know personal details about you. Data brokers and people-search sites can expose names, addresses, phone numbers and relatives. Trump’s bodge-job refurb of the reflecting pool at the Lincoln memorial has become the focus of ridicule in Washington this week. Earlier this year he cancelled a planned renovation of the landmark – the location of Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech – which would have taken three years and cost $300m.

Instead he said he had handed the work to firms that maintained swimming pools in his hotels, who were to resurface the bottom of the pool in “American Flag Blue”. After re-opening five weeks late, with costs ten times higher than Trump initially promised, the water almost immediately turned a swampy green colour as algae invaded the water.

The source of the algae has not been confirmed, but it’s been speculated there was residual algae left in the pipes from before the cleaning, which rapidly multiplied in the hot Washington DC weather. The pool has a filtration system, but it’s not clear whether repairs to that system were included in the current renovation. Later in the week, a section of the resurfacing began to peel off and flap about in the wind at the surface of the water.

There is no indication that this peeling was caused by vandals – although some tourists have begun to tear strips off it for souvenirs. The Mirror found several scraps of the surfacing material on a grassy verge near the damaged section.

Trump has a long history of overpromising, corner-cutting and failure in major building and renovation projects, none of which has been down to vandalism. Last week, some vandalism did take place on a grassy area on the far side of the Washington monument, where overnight a group of unidentified people used chemicals to etch “86 47” (86 being restaurant slang for “get rid of” and 47 referring to Trump, the 47th President) into the lawn.

But there’s no suggestion this or the people involved are linked to the “real problems” with the reflecting pool. Trump posted on Truth Social: “We’ve had some real problems with Vandalism at the beautiful Reflecting Pool, which sits between The Washington Monument and The Lincoln Memorial. Just like three days ago, they destroyed the grass outside of the Pool, they’ve also done everything possible to hurt the inside surface that was just installed.

“No different than the chemicals that were used on the National Mall, they used something similar in the Reflecting Pool to try to destroy and demean our beautiful work. Lightweight ABC Reporter, Jonathan Karl, was seen sticking his hand into the Pool, and trying to rip the rubber off of the surface.”

This is untrue. While a video did show Mr Karl grabbing the surfacing material, it had already peeled off and was floating at the surface. He did not try to “rip” anything off.

He went on: “The algae is 75% gone, and the condition will soon be completely remedied, and the area that was vandalised, fortunately, is just a small area of damage, and will be fixed early next week.

“It’s a shame that the Radical Left Lunatics, most likely Dumocats, who have spent their lives trying to ruin our Country, are free to do so. Law Enforcement is actively investigating this situation, and will hopefully have it resolved soon. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

One of the members was a blogger with contacts in the ketogenic network. He offered to recruit speakers for the cruise and to speak himself.

About 30 people joined the first Low Carb Cruise. Last year, there were more than 360 people sailing to Alaska.

Passengers eat meals together and take part in group activities throughout the trip.

The Low Carb Cruise has sailed 20 times. The company partners with a large cruise company that has “great conference spaces.” Recently, most of the sailings have been on Royal Caribbean.

The sailings feature seminars that focus on reducing carbohydrates rather than following one specific low-carb plan.

Passengers eat meals together and take part in group activities throughout the trip.

“We play together, we dance together. We have costume parties together. It’s like sailing with friends and family,’ Hubbs said.

Thomas Dimson and Joey Flynn had a similar feeling, leading them to create In the Weights. The “weights” in question are the numerical parameters that shape an AI model’s training and output, so the website purports to measure how well “a model is able to recall someone without using tools like web search.”

“Being in the weights means your existence was deemed important in the process of creating superhuman artificial intelligence,” the website says.

To achieve this, In the Weights supposedly queries different models (including Grok, Gemini, multiple versions of GPT, Claude, and Llama, plus lesser known models) with a question similar to, “Who is ? Give up to 10 results, each with a short description and confidence.” It then “cluster[s] similar descriptions together and assign[s] a strength score.”

For example, this humble tech blogger received a strength score of 641, placing me in the top 6% of names. I was feeling pretty good until I saw that multiple TechCrunch colleagues scored even higher. And the leaderboard has been shifting as I write this post, with “Home Alone” star Macaulay Culkin currently in the top slot with a strength score of 988, followed by opera singer Luciano Pavarotti.

The results also show which models returned answers for a given name, and they highlight potential hallucinations — apparently GPT-5.4 Mini says that Anthony Ha is an “ambiguous name form that could refer to multiple people with the initials A.H.A.”

Asked why he built In the Weights, Dimson told TechCrunch via email that he and Flynn were looking to “get the creative juices flowing again” after leaving OpenAI (which they both joined through the acquisition of their design startup Global Illumination). 

Dimson said he was thinking about how “Google vanity searches are the wrong objective in 2026 as more traffic moves to LLMs” and about the fact that “so many lives are encoded somehow in a bunch of floating point numbers inside the AI brain.” He also said the direction of the site was “sealed” by a tongue-in-cheek blog post riffing on AI weights and Terry Bisson’s classic short story “They’re Made Out of Meat.”

“Reception has been insane so far, we thought this would be a mild curiosity but it seems like it has struck a nerve of wanting to see if you live forever in the super intelligence (the comparison factor doesn’t hurt either!)” Dimson added.

While I’m not as convinced that being “remembered” by a chatbot is a guaranteed ticket to immortality, I can’t deny that I find the results both intriguing and jealousy-inducing, especially since they’re codified in an easy-to-compare score. (AI critic Anthony Moser scoffed that this is “literally the same as asking 13 chatbots to tell you about yourself.”) Also helping: The fact that the site features a cute, Nintendo-inspired retro design.

Dimson said he plans to dig in further into why different models in the same series return different results, which models are biased towards different types of people, and which people “should have a Wikipedia article but don’t.”
