Forecasters are predicting a spring heatwave over the weekend with temperatures set to be a staggering 10C more than average March temperatures

Britain will be hotter than Ibiza this weekend as sun worshippers flock to beer gardens and light up BBQs.

Forecasters reckon the spring heatwave will nudge 20C on Sunday after 19C on Saturday for what are tipped to be the two hottest days of the year so far.

It’s 10C more than average March temperatures. The highest temperature recorded so far in 2025 was 19C in Santon Downham in Suffolk on Thursday.

Even the North will see balmy highs of 18C, warmer than the 17C forecast in the Balearics and 15C in Marbella.

Supermarkets will see a rush on sausages and burgers with the warm continental air bringing sunshine-starved Brits outside and dusting off the garden furniture.

However, the above average temperatures are not expected to last.

Arctic air is expected to return on Monday as temperatures plunge back down to 10C with snow expected in the East, North, and even the South.

A wall of snow is expected to sweep across the country, with the Scottish Highlands being the worst affected, expecting 2.5cm of snow and lows of -5C.

Parts of the country not expected to see snow will see rain instead.

A Met Office forecaster said: “Spring is in the air for many of us this weekend.

“Temperatures are expected to be well above average, with 17-19C fairly widely, and more warm and sunny conditions on Sunday for many.

“But much colder air will follow from the north from Monday. Wintry showers are likely across the North and East next week, with accumulations of snow likely largely restricted to hills. There will be a return to overnight frosts for many.”

While Brits’ love for the full English remains undiminished, what condiments people choose to put on it differs greatly with may opting to swap the good old HP for gravy!

Gravy on fry-ups is more popular than brown sauce, a shock study has found.

One in 10 Brits say they like to douse their English breakfast with the roast dinner staple, while just 7% of people chose the classic accompaniment of HP sauce. The poll found ketchup is the most popular condiment with a fry-up, and is favoured by one in four of us.

But breakfast barbarians also voted sweet chilli and horseradish as the second best sauce to pair with a plate of sausages, bacon, eggs, beans and toast.

An outlandish 14% of condi-mentalists said they liked the controversial flavours with their breakfasts.

Mayonnaise was voted the third best sauce with 12%, and gravy was fourth with 11%.

Just under 10% said they don’t like to interfere with the flavour by adding a sauce, and mustard didn’t make the cut at all.

But the survey by Best Western Hotels also found our love for the full English remains undiminished with the much adored bacon, egg, beans, hash brown, tomatoes, black pudding and egg (poached, scrambled or fried).

It revealed a quarter of the nation enjoys a fry-up seven days a week, while 41% have it at least once a week.

But it revealed the traditional line-up may be changing, with one in five confessing they would never add a fried egg to their plate.

Meanwhile, in other food/drink news, Brits are returning to fizzy lager and Guinness as they ditch trendy craft beers.

High prices and big breweries cashing in are killing the hoppy ale market.

But industry insiders claim the market is just settling down. Matthew McAloone, of 40ft Brewery, said: “There was a plateau that people weren’t talking about.

“I think craft has reached that.”
